Abstract: Water and lye were used for extracting the endopolysaccharide from young leaves of Brasenia schreberi respectively in this study, and the antioxidation functions in vitro of the two types of polysaccharides, namely water-soluble polysaccharide and alkali-soluble polysaccharide. The results indicated that both the two type of polysaccharides have strong reducing power and· OH scanvenging abilities, which are passively correlated with their concentrations. But both the two capabilities of water-soluble polysaccharide are stronger compared with alkali-soluble polysaccharide. The optimum concentration of watersoluble polysaccharide for scavening super-oxygenic anion is 2.0 mg/ml,but that of alkali-soluble polysaccharide is 5.0mg/ml.
