Advances in Analytical Techniques in Traceability of Commercial Sea Cucumber

Abstract: As a nutritious seafood, commercial sea cucumbers are loved by consumers, but their high commodity prices have led to high risk of food frauds. Species, geographic origins and production methods of commercial sea cucumbers are all possibly adulterated in practice, thus implying the importance of traceability of the commodities. With concerns on adulteration of commercial sea cucumber products, the overviewed analytical techniques applied to counteract adulteration in practice which include DNA analysis, elemental analysis, stable isotope analysis and omics methodologies (lipidomics, proteomics and glycomics), and gave perspectives about future trend in the field.
