Abstract: In recent years, due to the increasing complaint cases for adulterated meat, milk and other foods as well as the spreading risk of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), identification and quantitative determination of animal-derived materials in foods and animal feed are important technological strategies to ensure food safety and protect consumer s health. These technological strategies based on protein and DNA specificity have been developed. In this paper, advantages and disadvantages of these methods have been discussed and the future development trend of these methods has also been proposed.
