Abstract: Because of the existence of other saccharides besides xylose,it is very difficult to recover xylose fromcrys-talline mother liquor simply by concentrationand crystallization. In t his paper, mother liquor was firstly treatedby the fermentation of active dry yeast(ADY)to metabolize glucose, and thenconcentratedunder vacuumandcrystalli zedby cooling,so xylose was recovered fro mcrystalline mother liquor. The rec overy rat of xylose was ca.25%.By means of fermentation with ADY,the glucose i nthe hydrolytic solutionof corncob also could be metabolized sufficien tly, which was beneficial to raise the crystallization yield of xylose.
