Abstract: Objective: To optimize conditions for the ethanol extraction of total saponins (TS) in Rhizoma Polygonati odorati with the assistance of microwave. Methods: The optimization of extraction conditions was performed by single factor and orthogonal array design methods based on TS content of extracts. Results: The optimal extraction conditions were obtained as follows: ethanol concentration 50%, material-to-liquid ratio 1:20 (g/mL) and microwave power 400 W for extraction repeated times for 10 min each time. The average content of TS in dry extracts was 5.414 mg/g under the optimum extracting condition.
Conclusion: The optimized extraction process is simple and easy to operate and has good stability.
