Abstract: Objective: To study the effect of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) on hypoglycemic activity and cytokine in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: The 1:1 matching method was used to select subjects according to their age (difference no more than 5 years old), duration of diabetes (difference no more than 5 years) and drug type and doses. LBP or placebo was provided by 300 mg/d for 3 consecutive months. Results: Fasting serum glucose and TNF-α had a significant difference between two groups after administration for 3 months. However, no significant difference was observed in leptin, interleukin 6 (IL-6), adiponectin and C reactive protein. Conclusion: LBP has the functions of decreasing serum glucose and reducing TNF-α in type 2 diabetic patients.
