Abstract: A gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method has been established for the determination of 2,4-diaminotoluene in laminated food packaging bags. The samples were soaked by boiling water and the soaked solution was extracted by ethyl acetate. Finally, 2,4-diaminotoluene in ethyl acetate was derived with trifluoro-acetic anhydride and the derivative was separated by DB-1701 capillary column and analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The calibration curve of 2,4-diaminotoluene was linear in the range of 0.002–0.040 mg/L. The limit of detection was 0.001 mg/L. The average recovery rate of 2,4-diaminotoluene at the spiked level of 0.004 mg/L and 0.020 mg/L was 94% with the relative standard deviation of 3.8%–5.5%. The developed method was fast, sensitive and accurate, and was suitable for the determination of 2,4-diaminotoluene in laminated food packaging bags.
