Methods: Food toxic safety assessments on the concentrated tea of Apocynum venetum Leaf for acute toxicity, genotoxic, teratology testing were tested by short period animal feeding trials strictly according to the national standard method. Results:Rat/mice acute oral toxicity of concentrated tea of Apocynum venetum Leaf both have showed LD50>10g/kg; Compared with control group, all of the Apocynum venetum groups have no genotoxic and teratogenic effect during micronucleus, teratospermia and teratotoxicity testing. Furthermore, no significant toxic physiological and biochemical effects are observed at the end of one month short period of rats feeding trials. Conclusion :The above toxic data suggest that the Apocynum venetum tea belong to non-toxic natural herb suitable to be exploited as preventive beverage for human cardiovascular health.
