Determination of Main Chemical Constituents in Dried Body of Cochineal

Abstract: Main chemical components in dried body of two species of cochineal,Dactylopius coccus Costa and Dactylopius confusus(cockerell),were determined in this study.Results showed that the contents of chemical substances in dried body of Dactylopius coccus are:red colorants 22.61%,wax 4.70%,fat 3.81%,protein 37.31%,total saccharides 31.06% and ash 1.16%,and the contents of chemical substances in dried body of Dactylopius confusus are:red colorants 10.47%,wax 6.71%,fat 3.98%,protein 31.25%,total saccharides 35.84% and ash 9.12%.The and main mineral elements in the two species were also analyzed.
