Abstract: The primary function of dietary protein is to supply the body adequately with amino acids and organicnitrogen. Up to now. little attention has been given to milk proteins. in particular casein, which is the main source ofbiologically active peptides. A series of bioactive peptides can be released by enzymatic proteolysis of casein invitro or in vivo. The regulatory effects concern nutrient uptake (phosphopeptides, casomorphins), postprandialhormone secretion (casomorphins). immune defense (immunopeptides, casokinins. casomorphins) and neuroendocrine information transtbr (casokinins). Casein phosphopeptides (CPPs) are the exclusive biological active peptidesthat can increase the absorption of calcium. CPPs have been found interesting applications as dietary supplementsand pharmaceutical preparations and toothpaste. mouthwash for their anticariogenicity. Japan and Germany governments had recommended CPPs for important functional food additives. UP to now. only a little works have beendone on researches and applications of CPPs in China. This review will introduce the main works on these aspectsfor CPPs certainly should be found widely uses in China.
