Recent insights in the use of nanocarriers for the oral delivery of bioactive peptides

Abstract

Abstract: Bioactive peptides have been used for preventive or therapeutic purposes because of their high specificity and biocompatibility. While nanocarriers play an important role in the stabilization of bioactive peptides and provide a strong protective effect when crossing the gastrointestinal tract. The bioavailability of bioactive peptides is greatly reduced by oral administration. the preparation of nanoparticles as an oral delivery system for bioactive peptides aims to enhance the functionalization of the bioavailability of the carrying bioactive peptides and thus improve treatment compliance. In this paper, the research status of protein/peptide oral nanocarrier delivery system is reviewed, focusing on the obstacles of oral delivery of bioactive peptides, various multifunctional delivery systems and their applications. It aimed to provide a reference basis for maximizing the utilization of bioactive peptides.
