Abstract:

Fifty-eight male SD rats were randomly divided into two groups, the control group (n=10) fed with basal diets and the model group (n=48) fed with high-fat diets for 3 weeks. Then hyperlipidemia rats were divided into 4 treatments (n=10), high lipid control treatment, low-dose, medium-dose and high-dose oat β-glucan treatments, which were fed high-fat diets plus different contents of oat β-glucan (0, 6,12 and 24 g β-glucan/kg, respectively) for 6 weeks. The levels of TC, TG, LDL-C , HDLC, ApoAI and ApoB in plasma were measured at the states of limosis (Rats were fasted for 12 h) and postprandial 2 h (Rats were fasted for 16 h and then fed 5 g diet), respectively. Hepatic lipids were also measured at the end of experiments. The results showed that compared with high lipid control group, the contents of TC, LDL-C and ApoB in plasma are significantly decreased in three oat β-glucan groups of hypolipidemic rats at the state of limosis. Three doses of β-glucan also can significantly improve postprandial plasma lipid distribution and reduce hepatic cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations. Furthermore, the difference among three doses of oat β-glucan was observed in this experiment.

Key words: oat β-glucan, limosis and postprandial lipid metabolism
