Abstract: The determination of sulfate radical content in sulfated polysaccharides(SPS) by gravimetric analysis of hydrochloric acid hydrolysis and barium sulfate precipation was investigated methodologically.By experiments of hydrolysis time, concentration of hydrochloric acid solution, amount of hydrochloric acid solution added for hydrolysis, weighing amount of sample for analysis, repeatability as well as recovery, the results were satisfactorily achieved under the analysis condition:hydrolysis time 4 h,HCl concentration 1mol/L,HCl solution added 15ml,sample weighed 200~300mg.Analyze samples as this method and procedure, the results achieved are reliable and accuracy is much better. This method, therefore,is suitable for determination of sulfate radical content of sulfated polysaccharides and related food and health food products.
