Abstract: In this paper, xylose was prepared from coconut shell by normal pressure acid hydrolysis processes. The effects of pretreatment time, acid concentration, reaction time and granularity on xylose yield were investigated by means of orthogonal test. It was indicated that the xylose yield could reach up to 16% with purity of 99% under optimal conditions of 0.2mol/L HCl and at 100℃ for 6h. Acid concentration and reaction time had significant effect on xylose yield, whereas pretreatment time and granularity had little effect on xylose yield.
