Abstract:  Some changes of pigment content, protein content, total lipid content and ability of eliminating free radical ofChlamydomonas nivalis exposed to different dosage ultraviolet radiation have been studied. The results showed that Chlamydomo-nas nivalis had quite strong capability to resist ultraviolet radiation. There grew more chlorophyll and carotenoid contents in thecell in accordance with the length of radiation time. And remarkable increase of astaxanthin content after being irradiated has alsobeen discovered. Basic biochemical components of Chlamydomonas nivalis have been obviously changed after the treatment suchas the content of protein decreased by 18.3%, while the total lipid content on the contrary increased by 32.0%, and the capabilityof eliminating free radicals of Chlamydomonas nivalis in organic solvent has also been enhanced.
