Abstract: The two-phase system medium for Mycobacterium sp.BD696-6 to produce Androst-4-ene-3,17-dione(AD)by degrading sterols was optimized. The obtained optimal medium ingredients were: sunflower oil 20%, molasses 6%, NH4NO3 0.3%, (NH4)2HPO4 0.08%. Under the optimal medium determined, the conversion rate reached to 78.6% when the concentration of substrate steroid was 0.6%, which is17.0% higher than the original medium.
