Abstract: A method for determination of eicosaqpentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid in fish oil and its products by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry was developed. The sample was first extracted by n-hexane,then the fatty acid was methylated with potassium hydroxide-methanol(KOH-MeOH).The obtained fatty acid methyl esters were determined and confirmed by gas chromatograph equipped with MSD on DB-17 fused silica capillary column(30m×0.25mm×0.10μm),using normal method. The recovery was from 93.3% to 102.1% CV(n=10) was from 2.83% to 3.42%.The method was simple, rapid, accruate and applicable to determine practical samples with satisfactory results.
