Progress in Research on the Preventive Effect of Tea Polyphenols on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Induced by High-Fat Diet

Abstract: With the change of dietary habits and the improvement of living standards, especially high fat intake, the incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is gradually increasing, with an average incidence of 20%–30% in western developed countries and 15%–30% in China. NAFLD has become one of the major global public health problems posing a serious threat to human health, and its clinical treatment remains a challenge. Tea polyphenols are bioactive substances extracted from tea leaves, which have health benefits in particular preventing some common diseases. To further understand the effects of tea polyphenols on NAFLD systematically, this article summarizes recent progress in research on the preventive effect of tea polyphenols on high-fat diet-induced NAFLD.
