Abstract: Objective: To study the hypolipidemiceffect of root extracts of Withania somnifera(L.) growing in Chongqing. Methods: Fifty Kunming mice were divided into negative control group(normal feed), positive control group(fat emulsion) and high, moderate and low dose groups(extract+fat emulsion). Each group was fed 30d. The level of total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) and high lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) were determined at the beginning and end of test. At the end of 30d, all mice were killed to observe the change of liver by laser confocus. Results: Root extracts of Withania somnifera(L.) can evidently decrease TC, TG and LDL-C level but increase HDL-C level in high blood lipids mice induced by fat emulsion(p<0.05), with fat drip reduced in the liver. Conclusion: Root extracts of Withania somnifera(L.) growing in Chongqing have hypolipidemic effect.
