Abstract: The effect of soybean hypocotyl extract on sucrase and maltase activity of rat intestinal mucosa was investigatedby colorimetric method, and glucose uptake into brush border membrane vehicles were determined by a rapid filtration method. The results showed that soybean hypocotyl extract significantly decreased sucrase and maltase activities of rat intestinal mucosaand glucose transport potency of brush border membrane vehicle of rabbit small intestine. It is suggested that soybean hypo-cotyl extract, which inhibit carbonhydrate digestion and absorption into small intestine, seem physiologically useful for sup-pressing postprandial hyperglycemia.
