Abstract: In order to investigate the effects of D-ribose on the recovery of rat cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle function after load swimming and to discuss its anti-fatigue and anti-hypoxia capabilities, the concentrations of plasma insulin, norepinephrine and epinephrine, and the swimming time of rats subjected to fatigue and the survival time of rats subjected to hypoxia, were determined. The results indicated that after swimming the concentration of plasma insulin of D-ribose control groups(RCG) was higher than that of normal control group(NCG) and swimming control group(SCG).After recovery of 72 h,the concentrations of plasma insulin of all D-ribose test group(RTG) are higher than that of NCG.The concentrations of norepinephrine and epinephrine of RTG are higher than those of SCG.After recovery of 72 h,the concentration of epinephrine of RTG is lower than that of NCG and SCG.The swimming time of rats subjected to fatigue and the survival time of rats subjected to hypoxia of RTG is prolonged by 50.21% and 8.8%,respectively.D-ribose can adjust the level of hormones, promote the process of gluconeogen-esis and significantly prolong the swimming time of rats subjected to fatigue and the survival time of rats subjected to hypoxia.D-ribose plays an important role in maintaining the stabilization of blood sugar and protecting the normal physiological function of important organs.
