Garlic Polysaccharides Ameliorates Liver Injury in Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease Mice by Regulating NF-κB Pathway

Abstract: Purpose: To investigate the protective effect of garlic polysaccharides on metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in mice. Methods: 50 male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into five groups, namely, the normal group, the model group, and the low, medium, and high dose garlic polysaccharides groups (250, 1000, and 3000 mg/kg · mb). Samples were taken after 28 days of feeding. Pathological morphology, biochemical indicators of serum and liver tissue were measured, and quantitative analysis of the expression of genes such as Hmox1, Cat, Gpx1, Tnf, Ccl2, Cxcl2, Cxcl10, Il1a, Il1b, Fasn, Acaca, Cpt1a, Acox, Cd36, Fabp1, Apob and Mttp. Results: Compared with the model group, garlic polysaccharides in the medium and high dose groups has a relatively significant alleviation effect on MAFLD, with the pathological morphology basically returning to normal, MDA and SOD in liver tissue approaching the level of the normal group, and the expression levels of genes such as Hmox1, Tnf, Ccl2, Cxcl2, Cxcl10, Cpt1a, and Acox have been significantly restored. Conclusions: The intervention of garlic polysaccharides basically eliminated the liver damage caused by MAFLD. The effect of the medium dose group was significant and the addition amount was moderate. The mechanism of action may be through NF- κB signal pathway regulates lipid metabolism and inflammatory gene expression, reducing lipid deposition and lipid peroxidation.
