Abstract: Chromium is an essential trace element in human body. Meanwhile,it is the necessary element for the hypoglycemic effects developed by insulin. Chromium(Ⅲ),as the effective element of glucose tolerance factor, has the function of ameliorating glucose metabolism for diabetics. The absorptivity of organic chromium is higher than that of inorganic chromium. Therefore,it is significant to study the relationship between diabetes mellitus and chromium complexes with high bio-activity and low toxcity content, which may have the protential quality of preventing or treating diabetes mellitus. The report was aimed to review the advance of study on the relationship between chromium and chromium complexes and diabetes mellitus at home and abroad.
