Abstract: Effects of water and ethanol extracts of 11 Chinese medicines were studied on the biomass and the polysaccharides production of Cordyceps sinensis by submerged culture. The results showed: water extracts of all the 11 Chinese medicines can improve the production of the biomass of Cordyceps sinensis except Cyathula officinalis, Polygonatum sibiricum and Dioscorea opposite, and the increasing scope in 0.007~0.94 times, water extracts of all the 11 Chinese medicines can improve the production of the Cordycepic exopolysa-ccharide,and the increasing scope in 0.09~0.88 times; Ethanol extracts of all the 8 Chinese medicines can also increase the production of the biomass of Cordyceps sinensis except Cyathula officinalis, Dendrobium nobile and Astragalus membranaceus which can check the growth of Cordyceps sinensis, and the increasing scope in 0.16~0.67 times. Except Dioscorea opposite and Astragalus membranaceus, ethanol extracts of the other 5 Chinese medicines can improve the production of the Cordycepic exopolysa-ccharide and the increasing scope in 0.03~0.73 times.Compared the resuls, the optium dosage of Angelica sinensis, Codonopsis pilosula, Lycium barbarum and Cyathula officinalis were tested, the three former in 150g/L and the latter in 50g/L. In the condition, the biomass of Cordyceps sinensis reached 26.13, 22.14, 23.55, 15.83g/L and the production of the Cordycepic exopolysa-ccharide reached 7160.2, 7580.3, 6830.5, 6583.6g/L respectively. All of the 11 Chinese medicines extracts can stimulate the production of the Cordycepic inrta-polysaccharides in lower level.
