Abstract:  To determine the total asterosaponins content from starfish, the photometric method was applied with 26% ethanol solution of vanillin and 75% sulfuric acid as color-forming reagents and pure Asterosaponin D262 as control standard. Various determination conditions were studied, and a quick, simple and accurate method was found. The interrelating coefficient of the standard curve is 0.99978. It was found that the total contents of asterosaponins from Asterias rollestoni and Asterias pectinifera are 0.0251% and 0.0313%, RSD 0.55% and 0.33% and average recovery rate 99.31% and 97.57%, respectively.
