Abstract: Objective:To investigate the inhibition effects of phycoerythrin(PE)from Gracilaria lemaneiftheormis on growth of Hela cells and its mechanism.Method:The proliferation of cell lines of Hela in vitro was assayed by MTT method.Effects of PE on Hela cells cycle and apoptosis were observed by flow cytometry and Annexin V-FITC/PI fluorescence staining.Result:PE could obviously inhibit the proliferation of Hela cells with a fair dose-effect relationship(p<0.01,r =0.84).The inhibitory rate at 48 h could reach more than 70% and its half inhibitory concentration(IC50)was 4.12μg/ml.PE could prevent the transformation of Hela cell cycle from G2/M to S phase to cause apoptosis. Conclusion:PE shows potent inhibitory effects on growth of Hela cells, and the mechanism is related to inducing the apoptosis of Hela cells.
